Yes, but make sure the seller includes a valid serial number or it will not activate. You didn't mention which version of OS X you have but you can use XP with Leopard or Snow Leopard.

Since you have Lion, it's going to want Windows 7 instead. However, I ran across a work around in the Mac Rumors Forum. Read through this thread: LINK Note... you will need a Snow Leopard disk to use the work around.

May I ask why you are wanting to use XP instead of 7? Microsoft is ending all support for XP in 2014. Win 7 is scheduled to continue receiving updates/support until 2020.

i have a bunch of windows software and some are pretty old, i have a windows machine but it would be nice to have it in one machine, i don't feel like paying a but load for windows 7 pro when all i really need is xp, if viruses are such a problem to xp, i may just disconnect it from the web, i don't really need the internet in xp so i may as well save a few dollars,

If the software doesn't require access to the graphics chipset (3D stuff specifically), you could run it in a virtual machine (see here for supported operating systems) which would be easier and not require the workaround posted earlier by chscag.
