So I just got a 2012 2.6ghz i7 15" and the guy put in 16gb of OWC ram he had for $150, pretty good deal id say but anyway I want to transfer my stuff over so I can sell my 13" but what is the easiest way? I want my internet history and everything so should I duplicate the HDD? My 13" is running snow leopard so should I duplicate it and then upgrade to mavericks or should I upgrade my 13" to mavericks and then duplicate so they would both be on mavericks right away too or what? And how do I go about duplicating the HHD? Also down the road I'm planning on getting an SSD so will there be any issue duplicating that from the copied HDD? like errors from coping a copy?

Also I miss swiping 4 fingers up to clear the desktop of windows and down for separating all open windows on mt lion its up for separating the windows (kind of) and down does nothing.

(is this what this forum is for? or is it more for people switching from windows? a mod could move this to macbooks if needed)

I moved you here to our "Apple Notebooks" forum which is where it belongs.

To answer your question... This is what I recommend: First, make a full Time Machine backup of your old MacBook Pro. Does the 2012 MacBook Pro already have data on it or is it a new install? If there is no data or account on the 2012 machine, you can use the Migration Assistant to transfer everything over from your Time Machine backup.

You can still do it that way if there is already an account on the newer MacBook Pro but it becomes a bit more complicated. Let us know.

Said switchers and I figured I was switching lol

How do I make a time machine back up?

umm the 15" has like an account on it but its just a burner named "newuser" and I just put LOL on it to see how it ran.

Also the 15" isn't running LOL as well as I was lead to believe? It's hitting the ceiling at 60fps most of the time but is sometimes dropping down to 20fps on medium high or high graphics and idk know why? Should I just bootcamp it and run PC LOL? I was told on here that LOL and WOW are not that graphically intense and the 650M+i7 should run them at 1440x900 or even 1680x1050 at high settings if not ultra. My 13" would run 30fps on medium...

First you need an external caddy and drive connected to the current MB and make a backup selecting everything. When you get the new MBP, connect the external, and boot from that via Disk utility, erase the internal drive to get that new user account off and go into Utilities and choose Migration Assistant and proceed.

When Snow Leopard is on the external, turn the computer off, and with the external connected reboot. Hold down the Option key and a screen should appear offering to start from the internal or the external. Select this and proceed. Or you can simply go into System preferences > Startup Disk and choose the external and restart.

And with office sometimes it does not transfer at all well so be ready to uninstall as set out at the Microsoft web site and do a clean install. A lengthy operation in itself so fingers crossed it works:-
