2011 MacBook Pro Ram

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and I have upgraded it to 16G ram last year. Understanding that the 16G ram module has become available, is there anyone tried out putting it into their 2011 MacBook Pro, making its ram up to 32G

Aside from the fact that a 16 GB module is going to be expensive, your machine may not be able to accept any more memory than what you already have. As a matter of fact, Apple states that your machine can only take 8 GB, however, OWC and Mactracker show it can really take 16 GB.

From what I read a while back when upgrading my late 2011 17" MBP to 16 GB ram, the motherboard only supports 16GB. Officially from Apple only 8GB. I haven't seen any 16GB sticks. Have you seen them for sale?

I personally have not seen any 16 GB modules for sale. OWC usually has the latest in stock and they're still only showing 8 GB modules. The OP apparently found someplace that sells them. However, OWC sells 2 x 8 GB (16 GB kit) modules for $192.50. A 16 GB module is going to be much more expensive. Besides, I don't believe the 2012 or 2013 MacBook Pro machines which are upgradeable can support any more than 16 GB.

(Only the latest iMacs can support 32 GB.)

OWC 16GB kit has worked perfect for me on my 2011 MBP. I do extensive PS work on large files and all is good. It seems like Apple is moving to very limited upgradability with soldered ram on the Retna MBP and even batteries are (I think) glued in.

That's true. The new retina machines and the 21.5" iMacs are not upgradeable. Which is why we tell folks who are about to buy one, to buy as much as they can afford because there is no upgrade path later on. It's the way Apple is trending and I expect other PC manufacturers to start doing the same.
