Can I install Snow leopard on a G4 Powerbook?

This unit has 10.4, it is running way to slow so the owner wants to reload the OS and upgrade if possible, the system's specs are 1.67Ghz PowerPC G4 with 1.5GB DDR SDRAM. According to my research I can upgrade to leopard but where would I find that OS nowadays? I have the Snow leopard OSX but according to my research this requires "Intel CPU" only? What's the best option here please?

You're correct, Snow Leopard is Intel only and will not work with a PPC processor. He can move up to Leopard if desired, however, finding a Leopard retail DVD is difficult and when you do find one, it may be priced fairly high.

Edit: I forgot to add that you can probably find a retail Leopard DVD (black) on eBay or Craig's list.

No. That version requires an Intel processor. Can't run on a G4. You'll have to go back to at least iLife '08. Even at that iMovie requires a G5 processor. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1010

The kindest suggestion may well be to update to a later model MacBook or MacBook Pro.

The fundamental problem is that you are trying to do modern things with a 10-year-old computer. Guess what -- na ga ha pen.

You don't need a brand new computer, but you need something made preferably in the last five years.
