New hard drive or new macbook pro?

Hello,

My 2009 Macbook pro, which has a 160 GB hard drive is almost full, so I wanted to install a new bigger 500 GB hard drive.

I know I can move data off it, but I like to back-up and have everything under the same roof on my lap top.

I want to the peace of mind of getting an apple approved agent to install a new drive and clone my existing one.

I have been quoted £229 to do this.

(I know you can install them yourself, but I am a complete novice and I would like someone else to do it.)

My question is: Is there any point simply getting a new Macbook Pro with a 500 GB hard drive?

My 2009 model is working fine, and given me no problems.

And there is a big, big price difference. £229 for a new hard drive installed, or £999 for a new macbook pro?

Any advice?

Thank you

My vote install 8GB of ram and a 256 GB SSD drive not only will it run faster and cooler it will make the battery last longer and install it yourself since there are plenty of videos and tutorials for DIY and its a lot easier than you think.
If Crucial is available to you have a look for pricing since both the ram and drive or priced right.

Unless you think you'll need more space than that. A 500GB 7200rpm hard drive is very speedy. The increased RAM is a good idea too.

The obvious answer is upgrade the hard drive.
