Installing OEM version of Windows 7 on new MacBook Pro via bootcamp and everything goes fine until it asks for the 25 digit product code. The first time I tried I could hardly make out the code with a magnifying glass and thought that was the problem. I was able to return the software and obtain a more legible copy and the same thing. I had 2 different people read it so I'm sure I have it right this time. The version of the software I'm using is supposed to be comparable for this use according to the reviews on the site I bought it. Anyone know of a solution?

Time to call MS.

What site did you buy it from?
Is this a download file or did you get a disk?

You can also just click next (or skip) without entering the product key.
In which case you will have 30 days to activate it.

The problem is I've partitioned the hard drive, installed Windows and drivers and received the error code "Invalid Product Code" when it came time to supply it. So I'll only be able to run windows for 30 days.

Sold by Amazon or 3rd party?
Full version and not upgrade disk?

Use this tutorial for calling to get activation - link.
In my experience it takes 1-2 minutes max.

It was the full version. Thanks for the link. I was on it before and when I went the steps the drop down menu didn't give me the phone option. I'll fool around with it some more. What I was trying to do is just buy another license from MS that would work before the 30 days was up and just keep the version I have installed but I seem to end up in a loop back to my starting point on the MS site.

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

It sounds like the OEM copy of Windows 7 you purchased from Amazon was a vendor's version not an OEM system builders. Which is why the Product ID won't work. MS long ago stopped the use of vendor's versions of Windows if in fact the copy was to be installed on different hardware. Ask Amazon for a refund and buy a MS boxed copy instead or an OEM system builder's full version.

I thought it was something like that. Amazon has refunded me. Any suggestions where I can buy the proper one?

Thanks

Amazon has refunded me. Any suggestions where I can buy the proper one?

Many on line vendors sell the genuine version of Windows 7. NewEgg, CompUSA, Tiger Direct, and many more. Make sure the copy you buy is a full install and includes both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. I bought my copy from MS when it was on sale but that special is long gone.

And Microsoft do not sell the code on its own, but rather a full new operating system.
