How to restore a mac mini that won't even get passed the apple start up. Option key will not do it.

We need more info...

What year and model Mini do you have? And which version of OS X is it running?

If it's an older Mini that has a disk drive and you have your original OS X disk, boot with that disk, select Utilities from the top menu and then Disk Utility. Do a verify for the hard drive and repair if possible. Let us know.

It is a DUO 1.86. I can not boot from original OX disk. I can get to disk utility when I try to reimage it but it will not let me boot from the HD itself.

It sounds like your hard drive might be defective. That's an older Mini, but you're going to need to positively verify the hard drive before replacing it. If your disk drive isn't working that's going to make it even more difficult.
