MBP 15" I7 first one and loving it.
Ok I connected a OWC external HD to my Airport Extreme 812.11ac. It shows up in finder as a device.
I would like to use CCC to clone the hard drive to this HD. Will I be able to boot from this drive to restore the clone if I need to?
Can I also create a partition on this HD to back up using time machine?

Edit I look in startup disk in system preferences this disk does not show up there. Guessing this means I can not boot from it.

Did you clone your internal hard drive to the OWC drive making sure it was formatted as HFS+ using the GUID scheme? If you did that, it should be bootable. It won't show up as a startup disk until you complete those steps.
