Apple wants credit card for Mavericks

Trying to install mavericks, after I enter my password, I am prompted to update my credit card info. I checked my iTunes and it has my current info and Mavericks is a Free Install so why are they asking for this information? I need someone's help to explain why I have to update my billing info for Mavericks.

All things in the App Store or iTunes require a valid Apple ID and credit card whether its free or paid its been that way from the beginning.
If you do not want to use your CC then you could purchase a iTunes gift card and use that or at least in the past that worked.

Apple is in the process of verifying everyone's information, and that includes your Apple ID, Password, and if necessary, billing info. Go ahead and verify your info and you should be good to go.

Verifying what's already there shouldn't be a big deal. The Mac App Store is a legitimate website/place...so there should be no nefarious activity concerns.

And as long as you're not charged ($$$) for Mavericks (which is free)...then nothing is wrong there either.

Apple, as part of increased security over your cc info, will periodically ask you to confirm your billing details. They're not requiring you to pay anything for Mavericks, just ensuring that your billing details are still correct (people change these details all the time and forgot to religiously inform every site they buy from that they've changed things! The nerve of such people! )
