I just upgraded my 2009 Mac mini to 10.8.6. It started up just fine, no problems. Then I went to open Garage Band to notice the mac wasn't seeing my recording interface anymore. I figured the software may be out of date for the new OS. Naturally I installed the new software, the computer "restarted" but no boot tone, blank monitor, nothing. Just the sound of the fan. I'm sure this isn't good.

Oh! Here's the really fun part. My DVD drive died on me a few months back. I bought an external, which helped me then, but nothing's happening from the boot disk now.

Please help.

I should add that to turn it off, a quick push of the power button is all it needs. I don't need to hold it down. Is my HD in heaven?

I just upgraded my 2009 Mac mini to 10.8.6.

Do you mean "10.8.6" or "10.6.8"? Because there is no "10.8.6".

Also. What Mac OS X version did you upgrade from?

You are correct. Sorry. Typing error. I upgraded from, I believe, 10.6. I definitely had snow leopard.

Ok...10.6 is Snow Leopard...and what OS version did you upgrade to?

And where did you download the newer OS version from?

Ok...now things are REALLY getting confusing. In your post above (thread post #4) you said that you upgraded FROM Snow Leopard (OS 10.6).

Now in thread post #6...you say that you upgraded to OS 10.6.8. If you went from 10.6 to 10.6.8...that's not an upgrade...that's an update.

Also...you included a link for "Mavericks". This is OS 10.9.

The "devil is in the details" my friend. We need to be accurate!:)

The best I can figure out is...you upgraded from OS 10.6.8 to OS 10.9.

Ok, I had to think back as to why I made the changes to know what changes I made.

I had 10.6.8. In order to install Logic Pro 10 I noticed I needed 10.6.4 or later. That's when I did a google search for "OS Mavericks" and got the above link. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, I don't know what happened. I figure'd I would take a look inside the computer to see if anything came loose. I popped the cover off, and while It was open I hit the power button and it started up like it should. I'm confused, but happy.
