What year and model MacBook Pro? Version of OS X?
Assuming the machine turns on and boots, a black screen can mean several things: Backlight has failed, LCD has failed, video cables are pinched off or failed.
Try attaching your MacBook Pro to an external monitor or TV. For that you will need the correct adapter and cable.
