firewire crapped out

im using a LaCie ext. harddrive on my emac
and all of a sudden nothing appears on the
desktop when I connect it.
same thing with my videocamera, wont connect

What could cause my comp to not read devices
connected to the firewire ports?

Are you using the same firewire cable for both the camera and the disk drive?

no, both devices have their respective cables

does it have to be a hardware problem or is their something i can fix with my keyboard/mouse
(maybe reinstall something??)
