If you already have the tracks that you need for the remixing, then Garageband works nicely.

Are you talking about cd tracks? How?

No, if you are planning on remixing something, you will need the individual recording tracks. Vocals, instrument tracks, etc. If you have those, separated as individual tracks, then you can load them into an app and do the remix.
If you click on my homepage link, you can hear a remix I did for a NIN song to see and hear what I am talking about.

I've heard a lot of these remixes... and some of them are awful.

You did a good job... I'll have that for my car stereo thanks! :headphone

There are "mashups" of the same song on beatmixed.com
Basically it's a hub for all things mashup. (Which are multiple songs complied into one.)
I've read a couple of write up links on garageband and mashups
and since mashups are remixes it'd most likely help you with your goal.
I'll see if I can't dig up the direct link.
