This usually means some sort of ram issue.

If this computer was working properly before this. What was done to it recently that may have impacted things?

Yes...then that's the problem. Two possibilities:

1. Either some of the ram is bad (possible...but maybe a long shot).
2. The ram was installed incorrectly. With some/most Mac Pro models...the ram must be installed in specific manner/order. Certain slots must be filled first.

So when you reinstalled the original ram (in the eame exact ram slots) does the computer work ok?

Are you saying everything is working fine with the old ram or the new ram?

What ram upgrade did you purchase (how many sticks of ram...and what size)?

The RAM on Mac Pros is very picky. What brand did you get and where?

Keep well away from eBay sellers for memory. OWC and Crucial the go and they are Mac specialists:-

Ok i bought from a Company on eBay maybe not the best option ....

I wanted to add regarding the e-Bay ram purchase. Since you purchased 8 x 1gig ram modules...and if all 8 were installed when you got the flashing light error...then the ram is either:

- not the correct type
- or one or more of the modules are bad

As mentioned already. Mac Pro's (especially the early ones) can be very picky when it comes to ram. And since they are so picky...getting ram from a reliable retailer is best (Crucial or OWC).

And as you probably know...ram for the early Mac Pro's is VERY expensive. Like 4x more expensive/gig compared to ram for later Mac Pro's (2009 and newer).

- Nick

p.s. I believe that Crucial has a UK based warehouse that they ship from. So shipping time & cost shouldn't be too terrible compared to other options.
