Recently I was told that there was an update available for Pages etc. After the update, whenever I try to open a document, I am told that I need to update my Pages to a newer version. But I already have! The document will not open. Any suggestions, please. I have re-downloaded and re-installed Pages, but it makes no difference.

What are you showing when you click on "About" Pages? Version number? The latest update to Pages should have no problem opening up the previous version, however, it is not compatible with Pages from iWork 08. In other words, it is compatible with iWork 09.

Your version of Pages is not the latest version. The latest version is 5.0 which is currently located in the Mac App store.
