I'm not familiar with the hardware involved in water heaters, but it does remind me of some basic troubleshooting with electronics/computers. If you have a part that keeps failing prematurely like this, then there's a chance that the problem isn't that part, but something else in the "chain" causing that part to fail.

Well, I'm a plumber today. Got to get a wax seal for a toilet. Good thing there's a spare! :glub:

Buy two -sometimes they require stacking. And make sure you get the one that comes with the bolts... They nearly always snap.

Got the one that's "reinforced" with a ring inside the wax. Went in like a charm. I had spare bolts; didn't need 'em.

Guess what? Again...
However, I've geared up my Google-Fu and found out it's NOT the thermocouple. This particular heater has a semi-sealed combustion chamber and a thermal shutoff switch.
People have been having all sorts of problems with this system. Reset the switch and the dang thing stays lit.
Now to clean out the chamber and check the airflow. And call the 800 number and see if the upgrade kit applies to me.
And me with an extra thermocouple on the shelf from last time... :(
