Lately time machine has taken along time to do backups. They do eventually, but I was wondering why they should take so long.

I'm assuming you're running Mavericks? If so, then yes... it is taking longer to prepare the backup. Time Machine has been updated along with Mavericks. You'll also notice that the icon in the top menu bar no longer spins when TM is doing the backup.

Yes I am running Mavericks. Thank you for the info. Now that you mention it I do notice the icon not spinning.

Time Machine takes a considerable time longer preparing than on Mountain Lion.
Looking at the logs, there is nothing specific showing up, so I let it run it's cause and not worry :)

Cheers ... McBie
