Typing this on my 2011 17" 2.4Ghz i7 MacBook Pro. 1920x1200, glossy, it was the base model but it's since got 16GB RAM and a 750GB hybrid drive. I got a skin for the keyboard, which I think I need to replace since this one was cheap and it's way too thick. It's connected to an old-but-still-functional 30" Apple Cinema Display, not problem-free but works well enough for my minimal needs (it was cheap). Instead of a fancy tilted stand, I went lifehack and use an old three-ring binder with a taped piece of cardboard on the end so it doesn't slide.

Oddly, next to me I have a 15" Retina. My work provided it for me. The screen is definitely awesome and it's a little faster generally than the 17", particularly the storage. But I dunno.. I still prefer to use this. I think even though the screen is lower resolution and obviously more pixellated, the sheer size of the panel is more functional for me. I admit this thing rarely leaves the house, this thread came to me as I was pondering taking it to work tomorrow.

Anyone else being stubborn and hanging on to their 17" model?

If I was sitting at a desk, the bigger the better up to a point. For me that was two 27"ers. 32" was too big for gaming without moving further away from the monitor which sort of made it pointless.

But alas, do almost all my personal time home computing from my recliner.
After getting use to a 13" MBA and then using my wife's 13" MBP, the MBA is the ticket for sitting on my lap.

If Apple was still producing the 17" when I upgraded, I would've bought one.

One of the main reasons I have not upgraded yet. I would love a 17" Retina. However, this workhorse of mine is still running as good as when I bought it.

I'd like to see the iMac line go to a retina screen but knowing what Apple would then do to the upgradeability of them..... Although the 21.5" machines are already non upgradeable anyway! :p
