Well, I have read that many browsers have "trouble" on OSX.

I guess I have ran into that problem.

Though I must say, I did download camino and it is a bit faster!

but when scrolling up and down webpages and when switching tabs, or doing any kind of activity within the page... virtual slideshow.

FYI:
G3 ibook 600
640mb ram(max'd out )
30gb hdd
Panther 10.3.9

That is all that should affect performance. I ran macjanitor and I did permissions repair and rebooted... I checked the power settings and made sure it was set to optimal performance. Did I miss something? Everything else seems to work smooth as butter.

What browsers have you tried using?
Also what websites are you going on?
Do you have other applications open in the background?

A little more infor might help us to diagnose the problem

exactly how slow is it and what iternet connection do you have?

Safari gets slow when there is alot of cache, try clearing the cache if you are using safari

Also -- I have dial up at home and I'm using Safari on my ibook and Camino on my eMac. Even with dial up, it's not crawling. I usually only have email opened and one website (sometimes 2) at a time. There are times when it is real slow but not very often. I get pauses every now and then.
I get more crashes on my eMac. I don't recall ever getting crashes on the ibook YET.

I've tried using safari, camino, firefox, opera, IE

I usually only have adium and mail running.

usually the more website detail there is, the more it "bogs down" for instance, if i go to google it isn't so bad, but if I go to a forum with all of its fun tables and texts and stuff all over the place(like hardforum) then it bogs down more...

Goto Safari>Empty Cache in the menu bar

oh, don't get me wrong... the webpages load fine.

But when doing things like scrolling up and down the webpage, switching tabs, dropping menus, etc... it crawls.

so its your computer not the internet site itself?
Try repairing permissions.. when was the last time you restarted your computer.. sometimes when my powerbook starts to lag I restart it to clear the memory.

what about your internet connection? dialup? broadband? Using wireless?

Even broadband is a shared resource. There are times, like REAL early in the morning when things zip along noticabley faster.

Maybe you have neighbors using your wireless connection too?

dialup is slow - by broadband standards - even on it's good days.

Sometimes even an wired ethernet connection can be bad - wire being pinched by something; electro interference from other equipment...

No, it is not an issue with the connection. Even after the page has completely loaded it still seems to run slowly, just scrolling up and down, response to link clickage, it just seems laggy and generally not right.

have you checked your scroll settings? did you try repairing permisions like PowerBookG4 mentioned?

yeah, I repaired the permissions. I'll have to check out the scroll settings.

well, is this even abnormal for g3 ibooks? is the g3 just "slow" with OSX? Even with 640mb of ram? I've heard that osx doesn't like web browsing for some reason anyways... is this system just ill equipped?
