Running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Unable to open .flv files downloaded from the web. I've tried using Imovie, Iphoto & Quicktime. Any suggestions appreciated.

Van, I actually found a couple of Video files VLC would not play! Mplayer would though. One was off an old ATI AIW Radeon with a very strange ATI Video codec. Otherwise everything plays in VLC.

I still like QT better interface wise with Perian installed. Just a personal preference I guess.

According to their site it does, but need to update Player. Will reinstall and see what happens.

Well the plot thickens. FLV is broken also and Perian no longer works because they have switched to core audio which perian does not support! QT will try and convert the FLV files but it takes hours people are saying and so far here with 100% CPU being used on one core, it's still not done with the first one! QT 7 though (I own QT7 Pro) still works and with perian so that is good news. Only other way it VLC or Niceplayer.

I grabbed the new Flip4Mac and it's a player called Flip Player that plays WMV it it's own player! It seems to work fine so far.

Let us know what you find out Craig. Been reading support forums since I saw your post with many hostile users!

There IS a Apple codec but that does it all but it only will install if you own A Pro Apple application like Final Cut and 2 others!

Well the Player seems to work. Unfortunately I don't have any .wmv files to test it on.
Was not aware Perian quit working. I think most of what I watch is Flash or HTML5 or MP4.
And what, pray tell, is the name of this codec?

Edit: I do have a .wmv file and I get "the application attempted to use an unsupported feature" and it wont play. Hmm
Quicktime7 tried but says "Flip4Mac cant play DRM content"
VLC plays all kinds of pretty colors, but no movie. I guess it's the movie.
