Turning off iMac screen without sleep?

Anyone know of a way to turn the iMac screen off without turning the computer itself off or putting it to sleep?

Or, does anyone know how to set the Energy Saver "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" to 1 minute, then back to whatever it was prior via an script of some sort (applescript, automator, terminal)?

I hacked together an apple script that gets me into the system preferences, then into the Energy Start pane, but can't get the slider to move to "1".

Thanks for any help.
