In the last 2 months, my iMac monitor has suddenly changed the screen to show grey pinstripes with no background. I have to unplug and restart. It's happened twice. Taking it to a shop won't help because it is sporadic. Suggestions? Anyone ever had this problem? I need this machine every day.

Need to know more about your iMac. iMac's have been around since 1998...which means there are literally close to 100 different iMac models.

Some iMac models were known to have video issues. If you have one of these models...that could be the problem. But otherwise (even if it's not one of these models with widespread video issues)...it still could be a problem with the video hardware...and ultimately not fixable. Or at least not fixable in a financially logical way.

Unless of course it's a newer iMac...and still covered under warranty.
