MBP 5,1 late 08 with NVIDIA 10.6 upload?

MBP 2.4 DUO,8GB,G4SE 8600GT 256,leopard 10.5.8
I'm looking for an upload able version, I have only found the disk so far. Is this one of those you have to have a disk only for upgrade? Any other options? Like skipping 10.6 and doing 10.7 or 8 on a separate/new drive then migrating data?

Typically the 10.6 disk is the way to upgrade. What's the issue...is your optical drive not working?

And yes...you need 10.6 installed before going further (10.6 installs the Mac App Store for downloading things).

- 10.7 is no longer available (may be able to call Apple to get it)
- so 10.8 is probably your next option
- if your computer can run 10.8...then it can run 10.9 "Mavericks"
