Cant delete mail

Been using Mail to check Gmail for years with nary a problem. Upgraded to Mavericks and now whenever I delete mail it comes right back within seconds.
I haven't changed anything so I assume Mail or Gmail has? I noticed 'Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox' and 'Store deleted messages on the server' are greyed out in Accounts. And both are checked. About to try repairing permissions but anyone have any ideas?

The way Gmail handles IMAP is unusual and the way Mail deals with that now has changed.

Well, that was a read. Thanks for the link. Seems to have fixed that problem but caused others. Will see how it goes over the next few days. Might have to go back to the web interface. Did you read the comments? Wow. Why cant Apple and Gmail play nice?

I have a huge gmail archive and Mail has never liked it. Always very sluggish. I switched back to the web interface a while back.

But, yes, you'd think that over something as basic as email everyone could just sing from the same hymn sheet
