Sarari will not open Mac Book pro 10.8.5 MTLion

I downloaded the update for Safari 6.1 and it will not open, [Beachball] Activity Monitor says Safari not responding. Same thing on both my Mac Pros on one I can see the sidebar but with beach ball. I'm using Firefox for posting this.

I am having the exact same issue. Only I can't get mail, open any of the office suite or basically do anything. I'll be watching your post and mine for an answer.
