Hello,

I ordered an ssd from crucial thinking it would include the disc and cable to clone the hard drive but it didn't. Is there a way to clone my hard drive without that cable? I was thinking that I would change the startup disc on my computer to an external hard drive, install the ssd and then change it back. Is that possible?

Regards,

Max

First... It is not recommended to "clone" a spinning hard drive to a SSD as that will cause problems. Install your SSD as per the instructions and then install OS X to it clean. You can then use your Time Machine backup to restore your data.

You didn't provide us with any other info so my answer above is generic.

Your Mac, model and year?

Version of OS X it's running?

Ok. It's an early 2011 MacBook pro running Maverick. How should I go about installing OS X to it after I install the ssd?
