I noted an old attempt to answer this query but it dissolved into a critique of the program without supplying one. Can anyone suggest a good, free alternative to CMM? Many thanks, as usual.

FYI. Even if "Clean My Mac" was free...many knowledgeable users on this website would not recommend it. They would still recommend Onyx.:)

Why don't they recommend it? I've used Cocktail and Onyx and CMM. I've been impressed with CMM in what it finds (and safely deletes) even after running Cocktail and Onyx. Where can one find critiques of these utilities, and the comparisons/benefits/adverse effects and so forth?

Have to admit I haven't used the "cleaning" section of Onyx. CMM has pretty graphics.

Why don't they recommend it?

Use the Search function and you'll find many threads on the subject. I rather doubt that many people here have direct experience using it, and thus could not detail the problems it has caused others. But you'll find them if you look.

Yep, each version only works with the version designed for.
Since it's a system utility, he updates and makes sure each version works with each OS.
Like this developer, need to donate more often.
His site is down currently.

Which version of OnyX are you running? I'm running 2.6.9 and it works just fine with Mavericks. I just opened it and ran it again to make sure.

Won't even open here. States "This version of Onyx requires OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)."

Looks like I haven't updated it in awhile - vs 2.6.3 - haven't run it in months either.

Won't open here either. I updated before installing Mavericks last night, so I'm current. I'm sure it won't take long for an update.

Just won't open.

Interestingly I always maintain disk health with Disk Warrior. Ran prior to update and now shows 25% error rate. Something to do with Mavericks?

Still will not open.

Still gave a little something to help with the next version.

The developer has put a locked thread on the forum. It's coming for Mavericks soon :)

Well something is amiss then. Why does version 2.6.9 work with Mavericks and version 2.7.4 doesn't? What is going on?

??
Could be they just forgot to put the little bit in that prevents it from opening in a diff version of OS X that time.

Well my DW surely reported 25% out of order using Graph.
