I have a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Mac Book Pro running OS X 10.8.5.

My track pad has started to do strange things, I'm sure this is a coding issue as it only occurs when using some software such as Safari, Finder And Excel the issue does not occur when I use Firefox.

When I use 2 fingers to scroll up and down web pages the page starts to move to the left. In Excel as soon as I open a spreadsheet the curser jumps to the bottom right corner and keeps going. In finder it's similar.

I found on Apple support a terminal code to input but this seems to have little affect.

One other strange thing is when I start my Mac in the initial opening the apple opening screen is small having two large bars down the side, similar to watch old TV on a new wide screen TV.

Any ideas????

You could try resetting the SMC which sometimes fixes erratic behavior of hardware.
