battery management

I am very new to mac and waiting for my macbook pro. I read some where that I should not need to turn off the device at all. All I should do is close the computer. Is that correct??

If it works the same as older Mac laptops closing it will put it in a deep sleep that uses so little battery that it will last at least a week.
