airport switching off and cannot be turned on again

macbook pro unibody 2010 macos10.6.8. Airport switches off on its own accord and cannot be switched on either from the menu or from System preferences. Restart necessary. Suggestions appreciated.

Try a SMC reset. Go here to learn how. If that doesn't work, also do a PRAM reset.
