How do you keep the display port active when you close the lid of an older MacBook Pro? I am told that there is a key combination that will keep the external display port active even when the main screen goes out...

Clamshell mode not working

RaZoredge: I looked up the procedure for operating in clamshell mode and can't get the second display to show anything (and definitely not what's on my laptop screen).

Setup the external display to "mirror". You might have it set to extend the desktop of your MacBook rather than mirror mode.

I am trying to use a HDTV as my "external Monitor" to watch movies and I don't think it has a "mirror" mode.

The "mirror" mode option should be available from your System Preferences, Displays, not the TV itself. When you attach the HDTV to your MacBook Pro, it should be identified and shown in the options. Set the display option to "mirror".
