HI, i recently bought mac mini late 2012 ed, connected with dell U2713 monitor via mini display to vga adapter.

My first thought is the VGA connection. VGA is a very old display pathway...and may not support all resolutions that the Mac-Mini/Dell U2713 combo are capable of.

From the specs I found...this monitor is supposed to have the following video ports:

- DVI-D
- HDMI
- Displayport
- VGA

Of these 4 port types...VGA is probably the worst one to use. Any one of the other video ports will probably provide you with more success.:)

thanks for reply. theoretically, i totally agree but believe me with VGA adaptor i get better resolution. i tried DVI-D and HDMI as well but didnt get expected results. i havent used mini dispaly to display port adapter as i dont know whether its available or not. so in the end problem is not yet solved.

so in the end problem is not yet solved.

And if you continue to use the VGA port on the monitor...the problem may never be solved...since the VGA pathway may not support the 2560x1440 resolution of this monitor.

The 2560x1440 resolution of this monitor is it's "native resolution"...which means that's the optimal resolution for picture & text quality.

If you want native resolution, you're going to need to get the correct cables.

HDMI max resolution is 1920x1080 (reckon it can do 1920x1200 on a 16X10 display)
DVI-D max resolution is 1920x1200 (technically, but sometimes can get higher - rare, but not to match that monitor)
VGA max resolution is about where you are at.

To get the monitor's native resolution, you're going to need either a displayport or a dual link DVI.

With your late 2012 Mac mini, you would need a 'mini displayport' to 'displayport' cable.
If Amazon is making that in their Amazon basics, have found their cables to be pretty good at a good price.
There is also monoprice.com.

That should do the trick to get you up to native resolution - I went and checked Amazon after I posted and they didn't have it in their basics line and didn't really know anything about the manufacturers I saw to make a specific recommendation for you.
