Switching to desktop

I have been using my MBP in clamshell mode. I'm wanting to switch to a desktop to help run my CAD software and Parallels faster. Also, the MBP gets hot with the lid closed.

What should I be looking for in a desktop to help cad and parallels run faster? Ram or Processor?

Silver M1 iMac 512/16/8/8 macOS 11.6
Simply the best you can afford. Top of the range would be say a 2010 Mac Pro or a mid 2011 iMac or later, both with say 12GB memory.
