i have recently ordered the new 27" iMac and configured it to suit my needs however i was unable to upgrade at ram when i ordered it, i am now looking to buy an upgrade of ram to fit into the iMac when it arrives, i am not going to pay the obscene price Apple are asking for on their website so i will look else where.

as standard the Mac comes with 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2X4GB) i wish to add another 8GB (2X4GB) i will need to buy some DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz however on Apples website it states it has 'SDRAM' but SDRAM comes in small sizes so im lead to believe it isnt actually SDRAM

using http://crucial.com's site it has suggested i use this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008MALNHE/ (amazon link as they are out of stock on their website, however this states it is for use with '2012 Apple Macbook Pro's, iMac's and 2011 / 2012 Mac mini's' and also doesnt state it is SDRAM

im confused....

SDRAM has nothing to do with the sizes..they come in all sizes..not sure I understand your confusion on this one..SDRAM is the name given to the memory chips..

yes.... and now look for SDRAM on a website they only seem to come in 512mb chips and cost a bomb.

anyways ignore the size issue, the link i have found and the link you posted both dont state sdram, why is it stated as sdram on apples site? thats my main confusion

There are many many different specs that can be listed for ram. If you check 5 different websites selling ram...rarely will all of them list exactly all the specs for the ram (some things will be omitted, and some things will be listed).

So you may find some info listed on some websites...and not listed/omitted on others. If you went to Crucial.com...trust me...whatever they say that your new iMac needs...it will be correct. And even if in the rare instance it isn't...they will replace it for free. :)

Since you haven't received your new iMac yet...stay excited regarding it's impending arrival!:)

I'm sure once you get it...you will survive on 8gig of ram for a little while!!!;) Depending on what you do on your computer...adding another 8 gig (16 gig total)...you may not even notice the difference.
