Format to burn movie for PC and DVD player

In need of a movie burning info: I have several videos shot on a cell phone (non-iphone) and in fact not a smart phone but an old flip phone. I need to be able to get them vewable on both a PC and a DVD player. What format in Imovie will accomplish this? I tried .MOV and that only plays on my Mac, but not the other 2.

You need to burn them as a standard DVD.

What PC/Mac do you have Which operating system etc?

Videos shot by a flip phone will look AWFUL on both a computer and DVD, but I suppose its the content that's important not the quality.

I'd suggest you buy something like Roxio's Toast, which will convert the video files you drag into it into the correct format and burn the DVD. Possibly the free Burn could help you with this too, depending on what codecs the original videos use (MOV is a format, not a codec).

Anyway to do this with Imovie, I have a real time constraint I need to meet. Yep they will look awful but that is not important.

Plus vs minus DVDs?

I am using a MacbookPro and the only stock of DVD's I have are DVD-R (thats Minus). I also have an older G4 and my memory is I had to get minus DVDs for the older computer. I do not know if my MBP can use both the - and the +. I really don't remember the difference. But could this be a DVD type problem?

I reburned in MPEG 4 and I could audio to play on a PC but not the video images.

I also just noticed I have IDVD on this machine. I ahve never used it will that help in any way?

Yes. Go into iMovie's Share Menu and choose iDVD. iMovie will convert your movie and then send it to iDVD, which will open and show an iDVD pProject window with your movie in it.

Just be aware that iMovie produces the dvd to autoplay when you put it in a DVD player. If you don't want this, click on the Map view button at the botom of the iDVD window, and drag the contents out of the first box.

Well so far no luck, IDVD is grayed out in my Imovie share drop down menu. However I have IDVD on the machine and i can launch it separately. Only have this afternoon need any help please.

That's odd if it's on your Mac.

In that case, choose the Export Movie option in the Share menu and then just drag and drop the resulting movie file into an iDVD Project window.
