When I open mail on ipad, flagged messages has 1 next to it, but there is flagged message. How to get rid of the 1?

I have also had this doozie:

The problem seemed to happen by deleting a flagged message without unflagging it first. I had to identify which email account the message had belonged to, then delete that account from the iPhone. That removed the ghost of the flagged message. Then I added the account back on and it was fine from that point.

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, but I'll give it a try

Annoyingly, this happened again today. So I can confirm both cause and fix...
