I can't figure out how to keep mail from opening old already opened emails every time it launches.

Any help would be appreciated.

Need a few clues: What Mac? What OS? What email system? What versions? What email provider? Mail, the Apple email system, opens to the last email I opened, which is, admittedly, "old already opened." However, the new mails are just above it (sorted by date in my case), so it's easy to find the new.

Not sure I understand what's going on unless you're actually leaving the mail open when you shut down the Mail app. Either that, or you're not shutting mail down properly.

Once you've read a particular mail message, close it and move it to a folder that you created. You can create folders for any situation; for example: Business, Home, Bills, and so forth.

Close mail completely when you're finished reading your mail - the Mail icon on your Dock will have a light beneath it if Mail is still running. Right click and choose quit.
