Is there any way, in ML, of showing cover art in the same "full size" scroll through format that worked great and looked great in "lion?"

You're referring to "Cover Flow" and no.
However -- that's not to say that some third-party couldn't do a plug-in that replicates that effect (in a sorta-different way so as not to get sued). I wouldn't be at all surprised if such a thing didn't already exist.
