Mail client not putting newly created messages in outbox

I recently reinstalled OS-X 10.6 on my Intel based 24" iMac. Since doing that, the Apple mail client has stopped sending newly created messages to the outbox. Instead, newly created emails are saved as a draft and placed in the draft box. Once there, the message cannot be opened for editing or sending. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Fixed my own problem

It seems that I forgot that after reinstalling an operating system, you have to do the software updates. Did the updates and mail started operating properly.
