I wish Apple would still make USB sticks available for folks that have a slow connection. Alas, apparently the engineers at 1 Infinite Loop all think that high speed broadband is available everywhere, or that everyone lives in a town with an Apple store.

But, anyway. Before anybody buys 500 of the things, I have discovered that the 10.7 stick doesn't work on all hardware. I haven't done any exhaustive testing, but it works on a 2011 MBPro and a 2011 Mini, but not on a 2012 Air or the latest Mini. By not work, I mean it won't boot.

Mine was bought on day 1 back in July (?) 2011 with an Air, so they might have updated it since and work with later hardware.

Would you be willing to pay Apple's original $69 price for a 10.7 USB stick?

Depending on the exact models we are talking...there's a simple answer for this...OS 10.7 may be too old for these computers.

The 2012 Mac-mini for example...shipped with OS 10.8.1. So OS 10.7 is too old for this computer.

p.s. It is (or was) supposed to still be able to call Apple at the "800" number...to get Lion. I'm not sure what form this is (disk, USB, or special download site).

I think they adopted this to keep cost low and people honest.
