So i recently purchased my 13" MBP from Apple about a week ago, naturally i cannot leave good enough alone.

I purchased it with the standard HDD knowing i would be swapping in my existing Kingston HyperX SSD i had laying around.

That was a nice upgrade and made things quite a bit faster.

Now im looking to upgrade the 4 gigs of ram. I have read that this laptop will support 16GB of ram, even though apple says 8.

Is there a recommended brand people run? I found this Ram on a quick google search.

We usually recommend purchasing ram from one of these two suppliers:

- Crucial
- OWC

Not only because they sell ram that works with Mac's...but also because they have lifetime warranty's on the ram they sell, they have great customer service, and they have no hassle returns.:)

Your link is already Crucial...so good to go there already!:) If you want to go for the 16gig upgrade...go for it!:)

Seriously? A MBP 13" can take 16GB Ram? Why does Apple say it is limited to 8GB? When you say it will run with 16GB installed, does that mean the MBP is USING all of that memory or just 8GB of that ram?

Occasionally some computer models can use more ram than Apple officially states. This is sometimes due to the fact that when the computer was released...higher density ram modules weren't available.

Sure, if you order the top of the line 15" MBP as it comes with 16 GB of memory. The retina MacBook Pro machines come pre-configured for memory and can not be upgraded.

You will have to pay $2599.00 US if you wish to have 16 GB of memory.

If you're talking about the brand new models...yes. But you MUST choose it as an upgrade at time of purchase (cannot be upgraded later).

I think what you meant Nick is that you have to choose the pre-configured model.... None of them can be upgraded for memory. They're all pre-configured with memory set in.

Bad news.

That's what I meant by "upgraded at time of purchase". Maybe "pre-configured" is a better way of putting it.:)
