iBook highlighting / syncing question

I have a rather large book (Infinite Jest) that I've been highlighting on my iPad.
I've been syncing my iPad with my iMac.
However, I just got a MBP and would rather sync my iPad with that.

My question is, if I sync my iPad for the first time with my new MBP and it asks me if I want to erase everything on my iPad and sync with this new computer, true I can re-download the book from the iTunes store, but will my highlight still be there?
If not, is there a way to sync my iPad to my new MBP and retain all of my highlighting?

I have no idea about the highlight syncing but how great is that book? I love me some David Foster Wallace.
