Finder sorting problem

MBP 15" I7 first one and loving it.
In finder in the name column at least in list view. You should be able to click on the heading and it should turn dark and show a triangle. By clicking this triangle you should be able to do ascending or descending order. In my finder this only works in Documents. Will not work in All My Files, Applications, User Files.

Can this feature be turned off some where that I'm missing? Or does it only work in Documents?

If your folder is set to sort by some sort of criteria, this will not work. If you right click an empty space > Arrange By and it's set to arrange the contents according to some criteria, this would explain it.

arrange by has to be set to none.
