This sounds like such an easy fix, but I'm having a hard time turning off the auto-arrange setting on my desktop. It just randomly started doing this out of the blue and I never selected auto arrange. Every time I drag an image or file onto my desktop it auto-arranges it :Shouting:

I have my view option settings set to "none" but it still wants to act up. I tried restarting my computer but still no luck.

My next step was resetting the PRAM or SMC restart...But, I wanted to know if there were any other options I could do or if you would recommend me doing a PRAM or SMC restart. I feel the PRAM won't do anything but it's worth a shot.

My OS is up to date, OS X Lion Version 10.8.4

I would try a PRAM reset rather than an SMC reset. The System Management Controller should have nothing to do with that feature. But who knows? Give them both a try and let us know.

No luck today, I even turned my macbook off all night/morning.

The PRAM or SMC didn't do the trick which I figured wouldn't.

Any other options?

Thanks!

Create another user account, or use one you already made for trouble shooting. Log in to that account and see if the problem persists. Report back for more brainstorming.

Thanks, I'll def give this a try next time it acts up.

Funny thing was yesterday I updated my OSX and now everything is back to normal...strange. But thank you for your reply!

Hopefully this helps some out if they ever come across this thread.

I'm not Jesus, but I'll respond. Did you try another user account? That would be a useful test. Or, you can continue having this problem and be no closer to a solution. You have to eliminate things that could be a cause. Flounder or figure it out; it's up to you.

Just tried it out, didn't work.

I'll just reinstall my OS, hopefully that solves the problem.

So i tried reinstalling OS X Mountain Lion, but still the problem is occurring...

NOW...Finder decides to open up everytime I drop an image onto my desktop. I've been updating my laptop and the problems keep happening.

I might end up shooting my laptop lol...joking.

Ok...So, I tried logging out but no luck. I remember I already tried that but I figured I'd give it another shot.

What I didn't do, was try it on another profile. On my guest profile it works like a charm!!! So what do you think the problem is? Or how would I fix this issue? I also just reinstalled my OS, so i'm kind of lost of options for now.

Well, how much hair do you have left?

I'd say transfer all your stuff over to a new account with Admin privileges, and dump your old one. You might not ever find what to tweak to fix it, if that's even possible. What you want is an account that behaves, not a headache.

This method sounds too good to be true lol...

I think I starting balding from this issue aswell.

I'll give it a try and I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks!
