hard drive cleaning

I recently refinanced my home and dumped some old documents in the trash not knowing that the info is stored on my hard drive. Since the docs have lots of identifying info i want to permanently remove it. What is the best software or method available to shred docs on my hard drive for a Mac Pro?

Use the secure erase feature of Disk Utility.

Also, in Finder preferences, the secure empty trash option can be ticked, and then if you simply hold down the CMD key & right-click the Trash icon, an option will pop up for you to empty the trash securely - information HERE - :)
