Notification Center Missing

I am a new iMac user, just getting familiar with the OS -- I do not have a notification center icon in the upper right toolbar. Is this a plug in?

No, it's not. What version of OS X are you running? You can find out by clicking on the Apple menu (top left corner), then select "About This Mac".

MBA mid-2013 (10.12.4), iPad 5th gen (10.3.1)
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think that's a feature of Mountain Lion, OS X 10.8.
