The 24" does not support TDM. The late '09 model 27" was the first model to support video input.

If you want to attempt it with the 24" in TDM anyway, you will need a mdp to mdp cable as it has a mdp port, not a TB port.

You can view the table for connecting here in item # 4.

Thanks for your reply,My 24 inch imac has a target disk button in system preferences

thanx again..

I've not personally done any experimenting with TDM at all and have not kept up with it.
Am really only aware that the '09 27" was the first model that accepted video input.
All of my experience is connecting to TVs vs Mac to Mac.

The mdp cable here is less than $10 and it's probably worth a shot - guessing you folks in Australia may have to pay $20 for one. We have a few other members here that may be able to suggest a reasonable retail place down under.

Please bear in mind that target disk mode and video input are two very different functions. Only the 27" 2009 iMac has video in. Since 2010 and the introduction of Thunderbolt to iMac no model has had video in capability to my knowledge.
For reference I've had the 2009 and have the 2010 27" iMacs.

No, sorry. I think it's a non-starter.
