When I start my Macbook5.2 A1181 there is no backlight.
Sometimes there is light 1 sec. and then it goes out.
When the computer then booted up, you can get it up by turning down the lights and then turn up again.
Sometimes this is done a few times.
Once there's been light, it works fine.

This is usually a symptom of the inverter failing. It's a cheap component but on that Mac is inside the hinge so it's a tricky replacement job.

Thank you.
I have ordered an inverter board.
It is no problem to replace it. I've been in there and see if it was the cable or connector.

It's mostly taking care with the clips when removing the screen surround. iFixit has good reference photos and info.

any chance that it may be the LCD screen or the mainboard?

If you can see the image on the screen it's unlikely to be the LCD itself. But yes it 'could' be any component in the display chain.

Literally had this problem not more than 2 weeks ago, I brought it in for repairs and they replaced the inverter for me. It helped, as the screen does tend to stay on now, but will still flicker off from time to time, I think the screen on mine is pretty worn as well.

An inverter replacement is a great first-step.
