Hi,
I have a MBA 13'' with 2GB. I don't really need to use Windows except of Word and writing papers in Hebrew (sadly Microsoft insists on not adding a right to left option for the last 15 years on Office for Mac 2011) . I've tried other options like Neo Office and Melel, but not of them are as good as word.

Do I have enough RAM for setting up Parallels? will it slow down my MBA? and is it worth to install it for just using some functions in Office? I currently have 121.82 GB of free space.

I'd really appreciate if some one has some useful advice on the subject.

Thanks!

It will work, but with only 2GB of RAM its probably going to be painfully slow. I have 8GB of RAM and split it 50-50 when using Parallels. You'd probably be OK with 4GBs, but 2GBs is going to be somewhat slow.

You could just about run parallels, as long as you stick to Windows XP, Windows 7 will be slow as molasses

Windows 7 64-bit requires 2GB of memory, the 32-bit version can do with 1GB. Windows XP Home edition has a 128MB minimum requirement and along with louishen that's what I'd recommend. You can create a VM with just 512MB, leaving OS X with 1.5GB.

You might squeak by with this, but I imagine that after prolonged use, you'll end up swapping to disk on the OS X side as you start to use a lot of apps on the OS X side..

You won't have enough memory to effectively use the Windows Word version in a Parallels or Fusion VM. Especially since you're going to be using a right to left language with other than Roman characters (Hebrew). You may run out of memory and your Air is stuck with 2 GB.

My advice is learn how to use Melel since it's specifically designed to accommodate right to left languages such as Hebrew or Arabic. Either that, or buy a more powerful Mac with plenty of memory.
