I'm trying to install some software onto my mac (synth plugins for a DAW I just got). I know you are supposed to drag the dmg file into the "drive" for the application but I only have the dmg file when I download applications. If I click on the dmg file it takes me through installation steps and says that the installation was successful. Afterwards, however, the app is nowhere to be found on my computer. What am I missing?

You are double clicking on the .dmg file to open it, and then dragging the application to the Applications Folder? If so check out Applications and then Utilities as some programs install there by default.
